![]() Most people who have become fans, played through their initial frustration and learned to savor the quest to thrive in a decidedly hostile world, cut off from all support, where you must utilize everything available to you, just to survive. Items and NPCs are few and far between, but every one of them is hard earned and of great value to your character. Strangely, these are some of the very things that appeal to King’s Field fans. Critics cite reasons such as slow character movement, hard game play- rife with ways to die, and minimal NPC interaction. The whole King’s Field series is one of those game franchises that people seem to either love or hate. If this is a brand new entry, I can't imagine how the original looked and played.King’s Field is a 3D, first person RPG similar to the Elder Scrolls series, but unlike the massive overwhelming worlds of an Elder Scrolls game, King’s Field focuses on exploring and mastering a few areas. ![]() But that didn't keep them from labeling King's Field Additional as "a brand new entry" in the series. I suppose From was attempting to make the game feel like the original PlayStation King's Field titles. In town, you can build up your character with new weapons, items and spells. The battle system is basic, giving you access to a single primary attack, a guard move and magic. As you explore the dungeon, you come into contact at random with enemies, whom you fight using a real time battle system. Also shown in the second video is a battle scene. You move through the dungeon in clear steps, something that was impressive back on the Genesis, but isn't so impressive on the PSP. The dungeons are set up like an old school first person game, back from before the invention of smooth first person engines. The PSP has its share of first person shooters, with most tending to command a respectable frame rate. And yet, From managed to make the PSP load between scenes! The other video shows what the gameplay looks like as you head off into the dungeon near town. ![]() Everything is done through still screens, with still character art overlays. One shows off scenes from the game's main town, where you have access to an inn, a pub, a weapon's shop - all the usual places you'd expect to find in an RPG town. ![]()
